Cisco announced new C260-M2 server

A couple of days ago Cisco announced among other products what looks like a nice server for virtualization: Cisco Unified Computing System C260 M2 rack-mount server (I know we will look more closely at these when they have a price).

Key features seems to be:

  • Intel® Xeon® processor E7-2800 product family (these are the 10-core cpus Intel announced the other day).
  • 64 DIMM sockets for up to 1TB (!) RAM (up to 256GB RAM using low-cost 4GB DIMM)
  • 16 internal SSF harddrives (SSD, SAS or SATA)
  • 6 PCIe slots

The "at a glance" presentation also claimed that there are two Enhanced Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP+) 10-Gbps interfaces but there is no mention of this in the data sheet so I'll have to investigate that further later on.

You can find a data sheet and more information at Cisco.

Now I'll read up on the other products they announced like the Nexus 3000 switch...
